How Can I Help My Child in Modern Foreign Languages?

Key Stage 3:

  • We recommend purchasing the 'Lonsdale KS3 The Essentials of...' revision guides for each language (which can be purchased online or from a book store), so that pupils can learn key, topic-based vocabulary as they go along.
  • Regularly test your child to see that they have indeed learnt this key, topic-based vocabulary.
  • Ensure that your child is spending at least 15-20 minutes every day, either completing online exercises on his or her languages “Visa Card” or reading from a languages reader or magazine from the school library.
  • Encourage your child to attend 'Eurolab', our lunchtime languages club.

Key Stage 5:

  • At key stage 5, students are expected to take responsibility for their own learning, and students should be spending approximately one and a half hours every evening on their language studies alone.  Is your child spending the correct amount of time on their studies?
  • Ensure that your child is attending all their sessions with the Foreign Languages Assistant.
