Induction Mass for Headteacher Ms Boyle image

Induction Mass for Headteacher Ms Boyle

On Tuesday 1st November a mass was held at Bishop Thomas Grant School to celebrate the Rite of Induction of Headteacher Ms Boyle.  In attendance were Headteachers from across the borough, students, parents, staff, and Ms Boyle’s friends and family.  The mass was celebrated by the Right Reverend Patrick Lynch, Auxiliary Bishop of Southwark, alongside members of the Southwark clergy.

The vestments worn by Bishop Patrick and the Altar Cloth were designed by students as celebration vestments, the colours woven in various materials representing the House system at Bishop Thomas Grant School.  Chaplain Mrs Hallam, who prepared the mass, transformed the Main Hall using the theme of wood to represent the natural development of the school – under the leadership of Ms Boyle, just as trees provide shelter the school provides all children with a safe place to learn.

Student prayers and readings were led by the Head Boy and Head Girl and music was provided by the Chapel Choir, directed by Head of Music Miss Oughton and Music Teacher Mr Eagles.  Pieces performed included Panis Angelicus, Pie Jesu and a very special and emotive Gaelic Blessing.

In his homily, Bishop Patrick spoke about how we can all become saints by acknowledging our talents, stepping forward to follow our own unique path, and opening ourselves up to God.

The Rite of Induction saw the Bishop invite staff, parents, students and parishioners to join together in pledging their commitment to support Ms Boyle in her new role as Headteacher.  To conclude the induction rites, Kathleen Robinson MBE, Chair of Governors at the time of Ms Boyle’s appointment as Headteacher, presented Ms Boyle with the keys of the school.

After the Eucharist, Ms Boyle expressed her intention to do the best she could in her role as Headteacher of Bishop Thomas Grant School and thanked everyone for their attendance, especially the students: "The school belongs to the students; it has always been and will always be theirs", Ms Boyle said.
